A former Eagle Scout near Philadelphia is accused of taking lethal measures for romantic revenge.

'Police say that 19-year-old Nicholas Helman sent a scratch-and-sniff birthday card laced with ricin to his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend,' 'GMA' reports.

Fortunately, though, WCAU says Helman foiled his own alleged murder plot when he told a co-worker about it.

'Bucks County authorities say Helman bragged to a co-worker saying he put a scratch-and-sniff birthday card laced with ricin in the victim's mailbox. Investigators retrieved that card and say the substance inside tested positive for ricin.'

As twisted forms of revenge usually go, police say Helman was hoping it would get him back together with his ex-girlfriend.

'Helman was arrested and authorities say his intent was to scare his ex-girlfriend in hopes of reconciling their relationship.'

KYW-TV reports Helman had been sending the victim threatening messages since November, according to police.

Helman has been charged with attempted murder.
