Let's Watch Sully Land US Airways 1549 Again on 'Miracle on the Hudson's' Fifth Anniversary
Today marks the fifth anniversary of Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger III safely landing US Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River after geese strikes shut down both engines, just after taking off from LaGuardia Airport.
To commemorate the anniversary, Sullenberger, first officer Jeff Skiles, some passengers and some members of the ferry crews who rescued them gathered today in New York, according to ABC. All 155 passengers, of course, survived the landing.
Since Jan. 15, 2009, Sullenberger has retired from US Airways, authored a best-selling memoir and works as a aviation consultant and public speaker.
Here's video of NBC News's coverage at the time, followed up by U.S. Coast Guard footage of the accident (the landing begins at the 2:02 mark).
