The Department of Defense awarded seven new defense contracts Tuesday, worth $296.9 million in total. Among the winners:

  • Northrop Grumman was awarded a $52.3 million firm-fixed-price cost-reimbursement option exercise to continue providing personnel, facilities, aircraft subsystems and support equipment for the U.S. Air Force's Battlefield Airborne Communications Node E-11A platform based out of Kandahar Air Base in Afghanistan through Jan. 23, 2015. The Air Force currently operates four such E-11As, which are used to relay information among different warfighters, both on the ground and in the air, even when such warfighters are communicating on different networks.
  • The Bell-Boeing Joint Project Office joint venture between Textron and Boeing was awarded $26.7 million cost-plus-fixed-fee, cost reimbursable delivery order to provide on-site flight test management, flight test engineering, design engineering, and related support for the Naval Rotary Wing Aircraft Test Squadron through December.
  • Raytheon was awarded a $25.5 million contract modification to perform engineering work on the U.S. Navy's DDG 1000 Zumwalt Class Destroyer Program through December.
  • Rolls-Royce was awarded a $13.6 million contract modification to perform 17,226 engine flight hours of work on Navy MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft -- the same aircraft produced by and being worked on by the Bell-Boeing Joint Project Office.
