The tallest hotel building in North America, Ace Hotel Los Angeles and the W Verbier highlight the world's recent hotel openings.
New York, New York: Courtyard By Marriott and Residence Inn Central Park
Today Marriott opened the 378-room Courtyard and 261-suite Residence Inn hotels in Midtown Manhattan. At 68 stories, the two hotels, which share a building, combined to make the tallest single-use hotel in North America. The Courtyard occupies floors 6-33 while the Residence Inn is located floors 37-65. Both hotels include views of Times Square, the Manhattan skyline, Central Park and the Hudson River. Rates for the Courtyard start at $175; a night at the Residence Inn begins at $191.
Los Angeles, California: Ace Hotel Los Angeles
Opened yesterday in a building constructed in 1927 for the United Artists film studio, Ace Hotel Los Angeles is the first hotel the company has opened since founder Alex Calderwood died in November. The chic 182-room pet-friendly hotel has a pool and bar on the roof and a Jesus Saves sign out back. Rooms start at $299.
Verbier, Switzerland: W Verbier
While you can find ways to ski in all 50 states, there's a time and a place for going overseas. The W's first alpine ski resort, the W Verbier in the Swiss Alps, qualifies. The resort, which opened on Dec. 1, offers ski-in and ski-out access to Les 4 Vallées and its more than 250 miles of ski runs and free-riding ski terrain. Each of the hotel's 130 rooms has a fireplace and balcony. And the W Verbier's Restaurant Arola features "new twists on Swiss classics" from Michelin two-star chef Sergi Arola. Rooms start at CHF500, about $550.
