New Restaurant: Element
Element is currently the dining go-to. The stunning space, outfitted with a tiled bar, exposed iron beams and reclaimed wood panels, takes up multiple floors of what used to be the power plant building at the old City Hospital. It offers a gorgeous view of the downtown skyline, and the menu is full of creative New American cuisine. Goat shoulder, anyone?
Newly Hip Hood: The Grove
The vibrant stretch of Manchester Ave. between Kingshighway Blvd. and Vandeventer Ave. that serves as the main commercial drag for The Grove neighborhood continues to flourish, from the down-home soul food at Sweetie Pie's on the western end to the drinks selection list at Sanctuaria Wild Tapas to the east, which was a finalist for Tales of the Cocktail's Best Cocktail List in 2011.
Word on the Street
The 2013 World Series run of the venerable St. Louis Cardinals is still being analyzed, cussed and discussed at water coolers across town. The consensus: The 'Birds may have come up short this time around, but just wait till next year!
