Alabama.gov Wins Another International Award for Excellent Web Design

State's official website receives first VEMA Award

MONTGOMERY, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Alabama's official state website, www.alabama.gov, was recently honored with a 2013 VEMA award for its excellence and visual creativity. This award marks the fifth for alabama.gov since its refresh in May 2012 and its first VEMA. The VEMA Award recognizes the outstanding work of innovative, artistic and creative professionals involved in the multimedia arts.


Alabama.gov is the official government Web portal for the State of Alabama (http://www.alabama.gov). Some of the newer enhancements to its also responsive design include the following:

  • Re-organized content grouping
  • Background photos taken in Alabama
  • SMS live help
  • Social media portal
  • QR codes
  • Enhanced user survey and kids' page
  • Animated state-wide weather conditions with a three day forecast
  • Flickr feed and submission link
  • Elected official information
  • Enhanced interactive county map with local government information

The Alabama.gov team is dedicated to developing online services to enable citizens and businesses alike to complete tasks efficiently. The Alabama.gov site design and functionality were developed at no cost to the state.

The VEMA award is sanctioned and judged by the VEMA Arts and Standards Council, an invitation-only body consisting of a distinguished group of highly skilled professionals with expertise, leadership and vision in the various disciplines within the multimedia arts. The award body's mission is to inspire and honor those talented individuals and companies who strive to further the evolution and excellence of the visual arts and digital communications media and to strengthen its collective artistic community.
