Dunkin' Donuts Customer Records Her Racist Rant [VIDEO] UPDATE
In recent years, customers have recorded abusive employees, employees have recorded abusive customers, and abusive employees have recorded themselves. But has an abusive customer ever recorded him or herself on video, then giddily posted it to Facebook in an episode of baffling self-delusion?
A young Florida woman apparently failed to get her receipt at a Dunkin' Donuts on Friday evening, entitling her, by some mysterious Dunkin' statute, to a free order. According to the customer's video, her server had said that she needed to return the following day to claim the free order, a request which -- in the customer's mind -- seems to be equivalent to murdering her firstborn. (She claims to have positively reviewed this Dunkin' Donuts online at least 100 times so, clearly, she has emotions toward it that border on the unhealthy.)
So the young woman, identified by The Smoking Gun as 27-year-old Taylor Chapman, apparently does return to the next day, with A VENGEANCE. At first she appears simply obnoxious on the video, waving around the smartphone that she's using to record it, and despite the Dunkin' employee's remarkable graciousness, threatening him by saying that she's "already called my lawyer" and subjecting him to a stream of profanity.
But when she spots the offender from the previous evening, her run-of-the-mill rudeness turns into all-out racism. "I hope you're happy, with your f****** little sand n***** self. Because I'm about to nuke your whole fucking planet from Mars," she wails. "Think y'all are tough big bad Arabs bombing us at the Trade Center? Well, I'll show you tough."
UPDATE 06/12/13, 11:30 am EDT: In response to a social media campaign, Dunkin' Donuts promised to reward the abused employees in a Tweet that was unfortunately not spell-checked: "Our franchisee will b recognizing the employees 4 their efforts. They handled the difficult situation w/ race [sic] and patience." Someone also launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise money for Abid and Nithi, the two employees who bore the brunt of the hate-rant, to help them along in their careers.
According to her Twitter page, Chapman has a bachelor's degree in business and marketing and is working towards a law degree. She's also appeared in commercials for local businesses, The Smoking Gun reported, but her current employment situation is unclear. (The medical device company listed on her LinkedIn page said that she hadn't been working there for over a year).
At one point in the video, Chapman expresses her hope that the video would "get a million f****** hits" on YouTube. Congratulations, brave warrior for free Strawberry Coolattas, 222,000 and counting.
