- Deployed on San Antonio's 33 campus libraries, Dell Latitude 10 helps increase reading engagement among K-8 students
ROUND ROCK, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Dell announced today that San Antonio Independent School District has deployed Dell Latitude 10 tablets running Microsoft Windows 8 across 33 of its 90 campus libraries in the first phase of the district's literacy initiative to support students to explore learning outside the classroom and connect to Big Universe, an integrated literacy platform. The district is now able to offer the 22,000 students on those campuses a multi-touch, dynamic learning experience that motivates them to increase their reading time and experience.
The tablet has a snap feature that runs applications side-by-side enabling students to multi-task. As a student is reading on the Dell Latitude 10 tablet, they are able to take notes simultaneously on the tablet to improve productivity and help increase engagement with the reading material. The Dell Latitude 10 enables students to produce content as readily as they consume it.
"The Dell Latitude 10 tablets give our students a device for self-directed learning and literacy that enables them to go beyond the text and pursue their own interests and intellectual curiosities," said Marcos Zorola, Chief Information Officer, San Antonio Independent School District. "Dell's solution is the best for our school district's libraries because they not only deliver a great user experience, but the tablets are compatible with the library infrastructure simplifying their deployment and management."
Preferred by educators, the Dell Latitude 10 is steadily deployed by schools around the world because of its affordability, accessibility, manageability and personalized learning features. Windows 8 is Microsoft's new operating system helping schools modernize by providing tools for better creation, consumption and collaboration to meet new education standards and the move to digital learning. According to a Harris Interactive online survey commissioned by Dell and Intel, 59 percent of school system IT decision makers and administrators say choosing devices that integrate with their existing IT infrastructure and that can be managed by existing tools is the best way to minimize total cost of ownership for tablets. The Dell Latitude 10 essentials configuration has been proven in a study by Principled Technologies to require 52 percent less time to manage and doubles the number of devices a single IT staff member can manage.
