Superior Energy Services Crushes Earnings Estimates
Superior Energy Services (NYS: SPN) reported earnings on April 25. Here are the numbers you need to know.

EPS came in at $0.52. The 17 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ forecast $0.40 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.52 for Q1 were 27% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.71 per share. (The prior-year quarter included -$0.13 per share in earnings from discontinued operations.) GAAP EPS of $0.40 for Q1 were 4.8% lower than the prior-year quarter's $0.42 per share. (The prior-year quarter included -$0.13 per share in earnings from discontinued operations.)

For the quarter, gross margin was 37.7%, 570 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 11.3%, 630 basis points worse than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 5.6%, much about the same as the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $1.19 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.51.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $4.86 billion. The average EPS estimate is $2.16.
