Sanchez Energy Whiffs on Revenues
Sanchez Energy (NYS: SN) reported earnings on March 7. Here are the numbers you need to know.

For the quarter ended Dec. 31 (Q4), Sanchez Energy whiffed on revenues and missed estimates on earnings per share.
Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue increased significantly. Non-GAAP earnings per share grew significantly. GAAP loss per share dropped.

Sanchez Energy notched revenue of $16.7 million. The nine analysts polled by S&P Capital IQ anticipated revenue of $24.9 million on the same basis. GAAP reported sales were much higher than the prior-year quarter's $4.6 million.

EPS came in at $0.05. The 10 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ predicted $0.15 per share. Non-GAAP EPS of $0.05 for Q4 were 67% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.03 per share. GAAP EPS were -$0.03 for Q4 versus -$0.06 per share for the prior-year quarter.

For the quarter, gross margin was 88.4%, 340 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 1.9%, much better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was -6.7%, much better than the prior-year quarter. (Margins calculated in GAAP terms.)
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $37.2 million. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.23.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $204.3 million. The average EPS estimate is $1.41.
