H.J. Heinz Beats Analyst Estimates on EPS

Compared to the prior-year quarter, revenue contracted slightly and GAAP earnings per share increased.

EPS came in at $0.87. The 16 earnings estimates compiled by S&P Capital IQ forecast $0.81 per share. GAAP EPS of $0.80 for Q1 were 14% higher than the prior-year quarter's $0.70 per share.

For the quarter, gross margin was 35.9%, 20 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Operating margin was 14.7%, 30 basis points better than the prior-year quarter. Net margin was 9.2%, 130 basis points better than the prior-year quarter.
Next quarter's average estimate for revenue is $2.87 billion. On the bottom line, the average EPS estimate is $0.86.
Next year's average estimate for revenue is $11.80 billion. The average EPS estimate is $3.52.
