Richard Branson to Give Virgin Blue a New Name
Richard Branson will travel to Australia next week to announce impending changes for his Virgin Blue airline. These changes will include a new name.
Virgin Blue is Virgin Enterprises' Australian-based airline. It is made up of the brands Virgin Blue, V Australia, Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue.
Branson, along with Virgin Blue CEO John Borghetti, will unveil the group's "new face" at Sydney Airport on Wednesday, reports news.com Australia.
It has been speculated the airline's new name will be Virgin Australia. This is based on the discovery of a "Virgin Australia" logo filed by Virgin Enterprises on the Australian government's intellectual property website.
Branson is hoping to put the pressure on its competitors, such as Australian flag carrier airline Qantas. The driving force will be a number of new Virgin routes, including stops in many European cities.
Earlier this month, Branson also announced plans to venture beneath the sea with a submarine craft dubbed the Virgin Oceanic.
