Injuries Lead Sunbeam to Recall Wine Bottle Openers Sold on QVC
Consumers reported injuries including cuts on their hands when the bottles broke, CPSC said. Sunbeam got a total of 52 reports so far of wine bottles breaking while the opener was being used on them.
Included in the recall is the skybar Air Pump Wine Opener with the model number NBSKWA2600 sold as part of a four-piece set that came in gray, blue, red or silver/black with a black storage box. The model number is printed on the bottle opener's bottom. The wine bottle opener was sold on QVC, in its stores nationwide and online from November 2010 to December 2010 for between $30 and $60. Made in China for Sunbeam, the opener also was sold online on its brand site. Sunbeam is part of Jarden Consumers Solutions.
Consumers should stop using the recalled wine bottle openers. If the opener was bought at a QVC store, return it for a refund. Consumers who bought it through QVC's TV shopping programs were mailed refund instructions -- if you haven't gotten the instructions, call QVC at (800) 367-9444 daily between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m. Eastern Time. If the wine bottle openers weren't bought through QVC, then call Sunbeam at (800) 759-2279 weekdays between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
Products sold on QVC that have been recalled included cast-iron skillets and candle holders. In 2009, Paula Deen recalled some of her cookware sold on QVC because it could shatter during use.
