Children's book character Ben the MouseStoryTimeForMe.com has 31 free children's books that the site "reads" aloud to your kid. I didn't have to download any software to listen to stories about Ben the Mouse, Fern the Fox or Flame the Dragon. No registration is required, either. You can just click on the story you want and listen!

With titles like Pete Gives it a Try, Rob Goes Missing and Penny's Secret, it's clear that these free e-books are meant for youngsters. As an actor reads the story, the words are highlighted so kids can follow along. Large buttons along the bottom of the screen are "kid-sized," making it easy for little hands to go back a page or find another book.

Adult readers in search of free e-books for their Kindle have plenty of options, too. I still prefer reading the old-fashioned way, with a hard copy in my hand, but I know others find e-reading easier than going to the library or bookstore.

Thanks, Free Sample Freak! Check back later today and through the week for more great freebies at WalletPop.
