Continental is the first airline in North America to take delivery of the Boeing 737-800 with the new Sky Interior design.

The plane may ease some of the struggle by air passengers for overhead bin space. It has larger overhead bins that retract into the ceiling, allowing for stowage of more roll-aboard carry-on bags.

The battle for bin space has intensified since airlines began charging fees to check bags.

The new interior also features sculpted sidewalls that create a more open look, energy-efficient LED lighting, improved ventilations and noise reduction.

Flight attendants will use new touch-screen panels and controls.

The new aircraft was flown to Orlando this week to be fitted with fuel-saving winglets.
