Jumbo Jet Appears to Graze Golden Gate Bridge During Stunt
During San Francisco's annual Fleet Week, a United Airlines Boeing 747-400 did a giant loop of the bay and then appeared to skim the top of the Golden Gate Bridge.
The low-level flyover spurred reactions from the thousands of onlookers that ranged from thrilled to alarmed and appalled. According to a blog post on the San Francisco Chronicle's website, some spectators were offended by the stunt, saying it reminded them of September 11th. There was also a veteran who was less than unappreciative of corporate sponsorship invading a military show.
The flyover happened on Sunday, during a show where the Blue Angels also performed. The Fleet Week website states the organization's mission is to "honor the dedication to duty and sacrifices of the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and to conduct and offer disaster preparedness training."
