5 Best Photo Opportunities in Breckenridge
Lee Van Grack
1. Best Photos with the Least Effort: BreckConnect Gondola or Colorado SuperChair
It's all about perspective. From the height of the BreckConnect Gondola, you can get panoramic views that are impossible at ground level. The gondola's original purpose was to reduce the need for bus transport from downtown Breckenridge to the mountain bases. A happy side effect is the scenery, magnificent even by mountain town standards.
The Colorado SuperChair takes you to Peak 8. From there, you can snap a few photos of the Continental Divide, and do some hiking, which will supply yet more lovely vistas. At the base of Peak 8 is the Fun Park, a good place for a special family fun photo.

2. Best Sunrise: Colorado Balloon Rides
You'll get plenty of stunning, scenic Breckenridge photos if your feet stay on terra firma, but for that extra special edge, a hot air balloon ride in the Rockies is unbeatable. This is the kind of thing you'll tell your grandkids about some day. Particularly if you have the photos to prove it. It's pricey, but so worth it.

3. Best Special Event Photos: December in Breckenridge
Breckenridge transforms into a fairytale town in December. Twinkling lights everywhere, a white blanket of snow, that crispness to the air that's only found in the mountains. It's the kind of holiday setting you may have always dreamed of, so go ahead and keep the camera at hand. Throughout the month, Breck plans an array of activities and events, from caroling on Main Street, to the incredible skills of the athletes of the Winter Dew Tour, to New Year's Eve fireworks.
4. Best Snow-Covered Scenery: Breckenridge Snowmobile Tour
Breckenridge Snowmobiling Tours & Rentals offers various outings for different skill levels and they keep group size small, so even if you've never been close to a snowmobile you'll do fine. During the winter, this is really the only way to get to the Continental Divide, and if you're determined to get those jaw-dropping photos, this is the way to do it. Along with beautiful snow-covered landscape along the way, you'll find some of the best photo ops in Breckenridge once you reach the Divide. Big sky, 14'ers in every direction... It's a sight you won't want to forget. Bring your own gloves and goggles; helmets, snowsuits and boots are provided.

5. Best Celebrity Photo Opportunities: Breckenridge Festival of Film
If it's June, it's time for the Breckenridge Festival of Film. It's not Sundance, but then Sundance is more crowded, more expensive and can be downright unpleasant if you're not a movie star. Breck's film festival is also devoted to indie filmmaking, but remains a much mellower event. The past few years have seen premieres of films such as La Vie En Rose, Death at a Funeral, The Wackness and Boy A, with celebrity appearances, too (D.B. Sweeney attended the 2010 festival). You never know who you might bump into, so keep that camera handy – this may be one of the best photo ops in Breckenridge that you get!
