American Airlines says it will begin offering free drinks to travelers in its U.S. Admirals Club lounges on Oct. 1.

Those visiting the clubs will be able to indulge in complimentary alcoholic beverages including wine, beer and house-brand spirits, according to a press release.

The carrier will still be charging for premium liquors and wines and a selection of fresh food, however.

Nancy Knipp, American's President - Admirals Club, says free drinks are something customers asked for.

American says it is also adding new HP Compaq 8000 Elite Business personal computers in the lounges for guest use.
