Virgin America and Twitter say Grab a Sale Fare and Give Back

Virgin America has teamed with Twitter for a 24-hour "Fly Forward, Give Back" fare sale that encourages travelers to grab a discounted seat and help raise funds for educational causes.

"This deal is definitely 'retweetable,' the carrier says in a press release.

One-way sale fares are from $39 for short-haul flights such as Los Angeles to San Francisco or San Francisco to Las Vegas. Long-haul fares are from $109, including from New York to Los Angeles, San Francisco or Las Vegas; or Boston to San Francisco or Los Angeles.

Virgin America says it will donate $5 for every direct booking to KIPP (Knowledge is Power Program) Classroom Projects on DonorsChoose.org.

The carrier says it is an ongoing supporter of the KIPP network, which operates free, open-enrollment, college-prep public schools in under-resourced communities. Virgin American expects its donation from the fare sale to be as much as $50,000.

An advance purchase requirement of 14 days applies to the sale fares, which are good for travel August 24 to November 17.

Tickets must be purchased by Wednesday at 10 a.m. Eastern Time (7 a.m. Pacific Time).
