Orbitz Extends Oil Spill Beach Guarantee

Orbitz has extended and expanded a guarantee promising travelers the BP Gulf oil spill won't ruin their beach vacation.

The "Open Beach Guarantee" is now good through September, and includes 240 hotels along the Gulf of Mexico. The original guarantee was set to end July 31, and only covered Florida hotels.

Under the guarantee, Orbitz says customers will be eligible for a full refund on their standalone hotel stay if a government agency closes or declares dangerous a beach within 20 miles of a property where they are booked. The online travel seller is not refunding airfare or packages with air.

Orbitz also continues to provide real-time travel updates for Gulf Coast travelers, including detailed trajectory maps from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), local volunteer opportunities and links to government and tourism websites.
