A new promotion from Carnival Cruise Lines offers steep discounts to active and retired military personnel. Throughout the month of May, military personnel can book up to three staterooms at discounted rates for themselves, friends, and family members.

According to a press release from Carnival, the offer is available on a wide range of three- to eight-day departures through April 30, 2012. Voyages sail from 12 year-round U.S. homeports and call on a wide range of destinations, including the Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexico, Alaska, Canada and New England.

Carnival said the special rates start as low as $219 per person for three- and four-day cruises. A five-day voyage can be snagged for $299 per person; six-day for $389; seven-day for $439 and eight-day for $549.

"We're very pleased to offer this special Memorial Day promotion to members of our country's armed forces. It's our way of recognizing their outstanding service to our country," said Gerry Cahill, Carnival's president and CEO.

To book, use fare code PM1, PM2, or PM4 for the military guest's cabin and PM3 for the two additional cabins when booking on the Carnival website. Eligible military personnel must provide proof of service, and must sail to take advantage of the offer. Availability is capacity controlled and cannot be combined with other discount offers such as resident or senior rates.
