Earn a Free Night for Every Three at Starwood Hotels
Starwood Hotels & Resorts today made public the hotel chain will bring back a 2010 version of last year's popular "SPG Free Weekends" promotion.
Under the promotion, guests who stay three times between May 1 and July 31 and earn a free weekend night to be redeemed between May 7 and December 19. Starwood will not cap how many free nights can be accrued, and will allow guests to combine free nights to put together longer weekend getaways. Weekends are defined as Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
New and existing Starwood Preferred Guest loyalty members can use the promotion, but must be registered to be eligible for the free night.
Astute travelers can use the deal to their advantage by booking individual nights at less expensive hotels, and then using the free night to stay at more expensive properties. For example, travelers can snag three nights at an Aloft hotel for around $100 a night and then stay at a pricier St. Regis, Sheraton, or Luxury Collection hotel. Other brands falling under the Starwood umbrella include Westin, Four Points by Sheraton, W Hotels, Le Méridien, and Element by Westin – the chain's first brand of environmentally friendly hotels.
Barbara De Lollis at USA Today's Hotel Check-In pointed out last year's promo was more generous, gifting customers with a free weekend night after just two stays. Currently, Hyatt Hotels is the only large chain offering travelers a free night after just two stays.
Additionally, there are 15 hotels that will not accept free weekend vouchers. According to USA Today, hotels exempt from the program include the St. Regis New York; Hotel Cala di Volpe in Italy; Hotel President Wilson in Switzerland; and Hotel Pitrizza in Italy.
Details on the promotion should appear soon on the chain's Starwood Preferred Guest page.
