Sprint stores running low on the Palm Pre

A 24/7 Wall Street nationwide sampling of Sprint (S) retail outlets show that many of them sold out their supply of Palm (PALM) Pre's.

There has been a great deal of attention paid to whether the Apple (AAPL) "iPhone killer" would do well. Sprint, the troubled No.3 wireless carrier in the US, needs a product success to show it can reverse the slide in its subscribers. Palm's fortune rest almost entirely on substantial sales of the Pre.

One of the major reasons that stores were out of the handsets or only had a few left was that most locations were given small allocations of the phone, a fact the Palm may end up regretting.
