Arrows and Golden Eagles' high school and middle school teams compete in added meet

ABERDEEN — Watertown and Aberdeen Central's track and field teams didn't get to compete last Friday in the Watoma Relays in Watertown, but made up for it with a combined high school-middle school dual on Monday.

The 60th Watoma Relays meet was called off because of cold weather on Friday, but the conditions were much better on Monday.

In the high school competition, Aberdeen Central won 11 events in the boys division and seven in the girls. Watertown's girls won 10 events and the Arrow boys five.

Watertown Highlights

Alayna and Victoria Smith each produced three first-place finishes for Watertown's girls. Alayn won the 100-meter dash (13.10 seconds) and 200 dash (27.21) and ran on the winning 800 relay (1:52.75) along with Victoria, Anna Hirtz and Eve Hauger.

Victoria won the 400 dash in 1:03.08 and not only ran on the winning 800 relay but also the winning 1,600 relay (4:30.24). Hauger, Shauna Evenson and Andi Olson also ran on the 1,600 relay.

Evenson also won the triple jump (34-10) and Grace McElroy took the 1,600 (5:36.1) and 3,200 (11:50.81) runs for the Arrow girls, who also got event wins from McKenzie Lewis (javelin, 100-3.25) and Jordyn Padgett (pole vault, 10-0).

Boaz Raderschadt won the shot put (54-0.75) and discus (157-10.25) in the boys division for Watertown. Owen Spartz took the pole vault (14-0).

Watertown also won the 400 (45.48) and 800 (1:37.63) relays. James Clendenin and Shey Coltrin ran on both relays. Jaxon Dorothy and Austin Redfield also ran on the 400 and Patrick Bednarczyk and Malique Decker rounded out the 800.

Aberdeen Central Highlights

David VanVeen had a big day in the boys division for Aberdeen Central. He won the 800 (2:05.79), 1,600 (4:34.11) and 3,200 (9:51.54) runs.

Kyson Fayant swept the hurdle raceds, winning the 110s in 16.96 and the 300s in 43.25.

The Golden Eagles also got wins from Avery Ligon (100 dash, 11.49), Eli Biegler (200 dash, 24:01) and Brendan Phillips (400 dash, 52.9) on the track and Jett Carlson (javelin, 152-7.75), Tyler Bain (high jump, 6-2) and Grant Fritz (triple jump, 41-7.5).

Mya Arampatzis won the 100 (15.49) and 300 (49.5) hurdles for Aberdeen Central's girls and Ciara Frank tied for first in the high jump (5-2) with teammate Madison Hochstetter ans also ran on the winning 400 relay (41.18) with Keyana Stillman, Regan Lust and Lucy Fritz.

Juna Ramey won the 800 run (2:36.25), Taryn Nieman the discus (127-8.75) and Taryn Hermansen the shot put (40-11.5).

Back to Aberdeen on Friday

The Arrows and the Golden Eagles will compete against each other again on Friday in the Al Sahli Invite in Aberdeen.

Aberdeen Roncalli, Frederick Area, Groton Area and Pierre are also scheduled to compete in the meet, which is slated to start at 3 p.m. at Swisher Field.
