Arrest warrant issued for ex-Baltimore cop accused of molesting children at wife’s day care

A former Baltimore police officer who was shot by his wife after allegations that he was molesting children at her day care has been formally charged, according to authorities.

An arrest warrant has been issued for James Weems Jr., 57, who remains hospitalized in police custody in Washington, D.C., pending extradition, Baltimore County officials said Tuesday.

Police did not release any more information but said Weems is facing “multiple charges.”

A spokesperson for the Baltimore Police Department did not immediately return a request for comment from the Daily News Wednesday.

Maryland day care owner says she shot ex-cop husband because ‘he’s a child molester’

Last week, Weems’ wife, 50-year-old Shanteari, was arrested at a D.C. hotel where she told police she had shot him in the head and leg because “he’s a child molester,” according to her arrest affidavit.

Shanteari Weems said she had been told by multiple children, parents and teachers at Lil Kidz Kastle, the Maryland day care center she owns, that her husband had molested kids, police said.

Inside the hotel room, officers found a handwritten notebook with scribbles including, “I’m going to shoot (the victim), but not kill him,” “I’m going to paralyze you,” and “My only regret is that I didn’t put a bullet in your head,” according to charging documents obtained by WTOP. Another note apologized to her “babies.”

She has been charged with assault with intent to kill and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Baltimore County officials said detectives were already investigating Weems “after they were notified of the abuse” earlier this month.
