Army helicopter crashes at U.S. base — status of crew unclear
An army helicopter has reportedly suffered heavy damage in a crash that left it on its side, according to a military spokesperson.
Alabama station WTVY reports the Apache aircraft based out of Fort Rucker had encountered a hard landing at Hooper Airfield, which is known as Apache Stage Field.
A public affairs director at Fort Fort said a training helicopters carrying two people was involved in the afternoon crash.

A medical chopper departed the crash scene, though it’s unclear where it’s headed. CBS News reports an aviation mishap is to blame for the damaged chopper and said medical staff was tending to the pilots.
The helicopter crash was the second apparent aerial mishap the military endured in the southeast Thursday. Col. Gregory Moseley of 325th Fighter Wing commander dedicated his thoughts and prayers to two pilots involved in a late morning “incident” at Tyndall Air Force Base near Panama City, FL.
