A trio of Dolphins starters was sidelined from Wednesday’s practice as they continue to manage lingering injuries.

Left tackle Terron Armstead (toe), cornerback Xavien Howard (groin) and tight end Durham Smythe (hamstring) all did not participate in practice.

Armstead has practiced sparingly as he manages a toe injury he sustained in the team’s season opener against the New England Patriots. Armstead has missed one game — Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings — because of the injury and left the Week 5 game against the New York Jets after aggravating the injury on the offense’s second drive.

Both Howard and Smythe also played in the team’s Week 7 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Safety Clayton Fejedelem, who logged his first defensive snaps of the season after safety Brandon Jones’ season-ending ACL injury, and outside linebacker Melvin Ingram (vet rest) also didn’t practice.

Defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah (back) and cornerbacks Kader Kohou (oblique) and Keion Crossen (knee) were limited after missing the Steelers game with injuries. Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel was noncommittal about their availability for Sunday’s road game against the Detroit Lions.

McDaniel said Ogbah is getting “better” and the team is “hoping that we’re going to get him back on the field here soon. [I’m] optimistic about Sunday.”

As for Kohou and Crossen, McDaniel said, “I feel good about it in that if it’s feasible, they’ll make the outing. They’ve done a good job progressing. We’ll see.”

Inside linebacker Jerome Baker (hip), tight end Tanner Conner (knee), offensive tackle Greg Little (Achilles), defensive linemen Zach Sieler (hand/ankle) and Christian Wilkins (hand), quarterback Skylar Thompson (right thumb) and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (shoulder) were also limited.

Meanwhile, right tackle Austin Jackson was again absent from practice after being designated to return from injured reserve on Oct. 12.

Jackson participated in two consecutive sessions but hasn’t practiced since Oct. 13. The third-year lineman has missed six consecutive games with an ankle injury he sustained in Week 1.

McDaniel on Monday said he wasn’t sure if Jackson would return to practice this week but, “I’m not ruling out that possibility.”

The team’s three-week deadline to activate Jackson to the 53-man roster or leave him on IR for the rest of the season is Nov. 1.
