Arizona police officer shoots truck driver who plowed through bike race, injuring at least six

An Arizona police officer shot a truck driver on Saturday after he plowed through a group of 40 to 50 bicyclists, critically injuring at least six.

The brutal accident unfolded during an event at the “Bike the Bluff” race in the city of Show Low. Police said a black Ford F-150 rammed into several bikers in front of the Horn Auto Collision Center, around 7:25 a.m. and then attempted to leave the scene.

Following a brief chase, an officer with the Show Low Police Department shot the fleeing driver behind an Ace Hardware store, police spokeswoman Kristine Sleighter told the Arizona Republic. The suspect, who has not been identified, remained in critical but stable condition Saturday afternoon.

Police did not disclose the details of what led up to the shooting.
