‘Argylle’ Sets Apple TV+ Release Date

Agent Argylle is coming to Apple TV+.

Matthew Vaughn’s star-studded spy caper “Argylle” will make its streaming debut on Apple TV+ on April 12, the company announced Friday.

“Argylle,” released in theaters on on February 2, undelivered during its box office opening weekend by bringing in $18 million domestically despite costing $200 million to produce. It opened with largely bad early reviews and holds a current 33% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The “Argylle” ensemble cast includes Bryce Dallas Howard, Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, John Cena, Ariana DeBose, Richard E. Grant, Dua Lipa, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Sofia Boutella and Samuel L. Jackson. It follows an unlikely spy mission taken by unassuming writer Elly Conway, played by Howard. Elly works alongside the real spy Aidan, played by Rockwell, on a globe-trotting mission full of assassins, deception, betrayal and a global crisis. As the movie unfolds, viewers learn who the real Agent Argylle is after a series of twists.

“Argylle” is directed by “Kingsman” series filmmaker Vaughn with Jason Fuchs as the screenwriter. It’s produced by Cloudy Productions and Vaughn’s consistent collaborators Adam Bohling and David Reid and Fuchs. Claudia Vaughn, Carlos Peres, Zygi Kamasa and Adam Fishbach executive produce.

Leading up to the streaming date of “Argylle,” K-pop members THE BOYZ have remixed “Electric Energy,” the Ariana Debose-led hit from “Argylle.” Variety spoke to Nile Rodgers ahead of the film’s release. Rodgers produced the original version, and spoke about how himself and the writing team were inspired by Disco star Sylvester inspired the retro disc vibe that plays at the end credits.
