Area news in brief for Feb. 5

SOUP COLLECTION – Clothed in Righteousness is conducting a Souper Bowl Drive timed to the upcoming Super Bowl LVIII. Donations of chunky soup, chili or beef stew are sought during February. “Each week we give out tons of cans of chunky soups in our homeless food bags. This provides a hearty protein-rich meal that they are able to easily heat at their campsite or eat right out of the can with no preparation,” representatives of Clothed in Righteousness said in a Facebook post last week. The group stresses that it is seeking cans of soup with pop-top cans. Donations can be dropped off at Clothed In Righteousness Inc., from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Thursday; Love Your Face Optical; G's Pizza World in Damascus;Alliance Friends Church; and Bridgewater Mercantile.

ALLIANCE ZONING – City of Alliance Board of Zoning Appeals will meet at 4:45 p.m. Feb. 20 in the City Administration Building, 504 E. Main St., in the second-floor conference room. Among items to be discussed on the agenda are an appeal from Ruth Defranco at 3080 Gaewood Court; and a request from A.C. Construction Stark Inc. for its Orchard Springs Parcel 8500043.

SEBRING SAFETY – Sebring Village Council’s Safety Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Village Hall. Among items to be discussed are Fire Station No. 1; fire and EMS mutual aid; and a new ambulance.

KNOX TRUSTEES – Knox Township trustees plan a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at 2895 Knox School Road. Trustees will convene at 6:45 p.m. to review bills. Note: This is a change of meeting date from Tuesday due to scheduling conflicts.

COLUMBIANA BUDGET – Columbiana County Budget Commission will meet at 10 a.m. Monday in the Auditor’s Conference Room. The meeting will be on the main floor of the courthouse.

SRMC CLINIC – Salem Regional Medical Center will open its new family medical practice facility and advanced radiology department in Canfield on Feb. 19 at 5002 Millennial Lane in Canfield, the intersection of Route 224 and Palmyra Road. Family Medicine providers will provide a full range of primary care services for patients of all ages. ARC Medical Imaging ARC Medical Imaging, an independent diagnostic testing facility, will be located within the Canfield facility, providing onsite diagnostic services including CT scans, 3D mammograms, digital X-rays and walk-in availability for certain services. SOUP SALE – Mile Branch Grange plans its monthly drive-thru soup sale from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at 495 Knox School Road. Soup is $8 per quart, and this month broccoli cheese and vegetable beef are the choices. Soup must be ordered by noon Wednesday by calling 330-821-8023. Leave your name, phone number, type of soup and number of quarts and your soup will be waiting for you. Soup will be packaged and delivered directly to your car ready to heat when you get home.
