Area Happenings: Spring Book Sale, fish fries, free community meals

Spring Book Sale, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Book Cellar in the basement of the Wayne County Public Library's Operations Center, 304 N. Market St., Wooster. The sale will include children’s, young adult, adult and large print fiction and nonfiction, both hard cover and paperback.

Spring Fish Fry, 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Ashland County-West Holmes Career Center, 1783 State Route 60, Ashland. The event is sponsored by the student-led Interact Club. The meal features all the fish you can eat (until gone), along with French fries, coleslaw, applesauce, roll and butter, drink and dessert. Prices are: $15 adults; $12 Sr. Citizens (62 and over) and $9 for children 12 and under.

WHATT Fair, 4-8 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Secrest Welcome and Education Center, 1680 Madison Ave., Wooster. WHATT (Wellness, Holistic, Alternative Treatment and Therapy). Entry fee is $10 and includes classes and presentations, canine therapy, meditation experience, sound bath, reiki, an art experience, and lots of wellness vendors.

Winter Wellness Walk: March Madness, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Heartland Trail trailhead at the corner of West Market and Depot streets near the Railroad Heritage Depot in Orrville. This free event is open to community members of all ages to celebrate healthy outdoor activities.

Spaghetti Dinner, 4:30-7 p.m. Saturday, Moreland United Methodist Church, 138 E. Moreland Road, Wooster. Donations accepted. Carry-out available.

Swiss Steak Dinner, 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Beach City American Legion Hall Post 549, 125, Third Ave. NE. Drive-thru carry-out only. Meal includes three bean salad, applesauce, mashed potatoes/ homemade gravy, corn, bread and dessert for the cost of $12.

Free Community Meal, 5 p.m. Saturday, St. Michael Lutheran Church, 26 E. Maine St., Ashland. Following the meal at 6 PM we will have music by Simply Annette & Company.

Civil War Round Table, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, Wayne County Historical Society schoolhouse. Medina County Treasurer John Burke will portray Frederick Phisterer, a Union soldier, in the Civil War from Medina County who received the Medal of Honor for valor at the Battle of Stones River at Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Free and open to the public. There is parking on site (enter from the Spink Street entrance) and along the fence in the Drug Mart parking lot. Ten Weeks of Tasty, through April 26, downtown Wooster. Each drink shop and restaurant brings its own signature flare to their establishment, and they will be highlight. Beginning Thursday enjoy the highlighted restaurant, and on Friday's enjoy a drink shop highlighted. The rotation will be followed for 10 weeks. SERVE Meal, 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, Shreve Community Church, 430 N. Main St., Shreve. SERVE Meal is a community event to feed the people of Shreve with food and God's word.

Ladies Night Out at Lehmans, 5:30-8:30 p.m., Thursday, March 21, Lehmans, 4779 Kidron Road, Kidron. The event will feature make-it-take-it demonstrations and food. Each ticket holder will receive a free gift bag (while supplies lasts) worth over $30 including a $10 off coupon. Walk through the store to find food samples, play a game of bingo and take fun pictures in the photo booth.

Lenten Fish Dinner, Boy Scout Troop 68, 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 22, Church of the Cross, 5100 Cleveland Road, Wooster. Meals are $12 and included fried pollock, baked potato, apple sauce, roll with butter and a dessert. Dine-in or pick-up.

Rittman Easter Egg Hunt, 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, Calvary Baptist Church,t 516 W. Sunset Drive, Rittman. The event and activities are free to attend. Pictures with the Easter Bunny (take a camera), face painting, hot dogs, snacks and drinks, bounce house (weather permitting) games and prizes will be available.

The Fun Center Chordsmen Barbershop Chorus, 3 p.m. Saturday, March 23, Lexington High School auditorium. The show will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Chordsmen. The guest quartet, ReRouted, will perform as well as quartets from within the Chordsmen. Tickets at the door are $15 for adults and $5 for students.
