Area boys bowlers wrap up year at state in Orlando, top girls golfers go low at regionals

Local boys bowlers concluded their season Tuesday at the FHSAA Bowling Championships in Orlando at the Boardwalk Bowl Entertainment Center in Orlando.

Jensen Beach finished 19th as a team with a total of 3,613 pins and was led by senior Chase McNamara, who bowled a four-game series of 792 in qualifying to finish 59th individually.

Fort Pierce Central's Will Auriemma led the area in individual qualifying, bowling an 804 series to finish in a tie for 51st and Christian White was three pins behind with an 801, finishing 53rd.

For Jensen Beach, Vaughn Berhoff bowled a 761 series, Henry Dieffenbach rolled a 746 series and Aiden Wintercorn bowled a 741 series for the Falcons.

"I've been bowling for four years for this team and we've gotten real close multiple times, and as my last year this is probably the best thing I could have ever done," McNamara said.

Treasure Coast was led by Logan Zavala's 721 series and Nick Ouchmann rolled a 700 series.

Brantly Heard bowled a 697 series for the Titans.

In girls golf regional tournament action also on Tuesday, it will be a wait for the top performers on the day to see if they will receive at-large berths to the state tournament.

At the Girls Region 2-3A Championship at Royal St. Cloud in St. Cloud, Vero Beach junior Dounia Bezzari shot a 1-over 73 to finish in a tie for sixth.

Bezzari made two birdies against three bogeys to lead Vero Beach, who finished in fourth as a team with a score of 333.

Martin County finished seventh as a team with a total of 355 and junior Catherine Mulvaney shot a 3-over 75 to finish tenth individually for the Tigers.

At the Region 2-2 Championship at Dubsdread Golf Course in Orlando, South Fork's girls finished eighth as a team and junior Lily Boulter led the way shooting 9-over 80 to take fifth overall.

Eight teams and individuals will qualify as at-large berths on top of the top two teams and individuals not on advancing teams per region to the state tournament.
