Archbishop gets honorary degree from Aberdeen uni

The Archbishop of Canterbury has been awarded an honorary degree from the University of Aberdeen.

Justin Welby was recognised for what was described as his "contribution to faith and society".

He was presented with a Doctorate in Divinity during a special ceremony at King's College Chapel earlier.

Mr Welby said receiving the degree from the "distinguished" university was a "great gift".

He was announced as the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury in 2012.

Prof George Boyne, the University of Aberdeen's Principal and Vice-Chancellor, said theological study has been an important part of the university for centuries.

"So we are pleased to recognise the Archbishop’s contribution," he said.
