Apple shares tense first trailer for docuseries on The Conjuring 2 haunting inspiration
The first trailer for Apple TV+'s documentary The Enfield Poltergeist has been released, and is set to detail the hauntings that inspired The Conjuring 2.
The docuseries will focus on the story of the infamous Enfield poltergeist – a case where supernatural activity was reported at a family home in the North London borough between 1977 and 1979.
While the visual aspect of the series will be a 'recreation' of the events, the show will also incorporate "the original recordings" that were made in the house during investigations.
Over the course of the four-part series, more than 250 recordings from Maurice Grosse (the case's paranormal investigator) will be used.
And, while the Apple TV+ docuseries has built a replica set of the council house where mysterious activity was reported, there will also be appearances from those who recall the actual events.
"For one family in 1977's London, dread was just the beginning," the trailer voiceover teases.
"What you're seeing is a reimagining of those events. But what you'll hear is real."
The voiceover carries the teaser through original photographs of the family's ordeal, intercut with recreations of events that happened at the time – and, of course, terrifying snippets from Grosse's archive.
The Enfield Poltergeist will be directed by Jerry Rothwell and produced by Oscar-winning filmmaker Davis Guggenheim, who recently directed Michael J Fox documentary Still for the streaming service.
The Enfield haunting case inspired James Wan's horror film The Conjuring 2, which saw Ed and Lorraine Warren (played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) attempting to help the Hodgson family, after the investigators learned of reports of the house being haunted.
Sky also aired a drama miniseries called The Enfield Haunting inspired by the case, with a cast including Timothy Spall and Matthew Macfadyen as paranormal investigators.
The events have recently been adapted into an upcoming stage play, also called The Enfield Haunting. Starring Doctor Who star Catherine Tate and Shameless actor David Threlfall, it premieres in November.
The Enfield Poltergeist will be available to stream on Apple TV+ on October 27.
