A Hot Take: Bradley Cooper Hates ChairsAxelle/Bauer-Griffin - Getty Images

Bradley Cooper is known for many things: his heartthrob status, tear-jerking performances, impeccable facial hair—the list goes on. What you might not expect from him? He hates chairs. Let us explain. This month, directors Spike Lee and Cooper interviewed each other for the latest season of Variety’s filmmaking series Directors on Directors. During their discussion on films and how they find inspiration, they took a brief detour to explore Cooper’s secret hatred of having chairs on set.

It turns out, he doesn’t love the energy of chairs in a “video village” setup, where filmmakers can sit and watch scenes as they’re being filmed or when reviewing playback footage. “There’s no chairs on sets,” Cooper says to Lee during the interview. “I’ve always hated chairs and I feel like your energy dips the minute you sit down in a chair.”

You might be wondering, what is Cooper okay with sitting on if not a chair? He suggests an apple box as a “very nice way to sit.” Yes, a literal wooden crate like what you'd transport apples in. It’s a hot take, and a confusing one to say the least. Hopefully, the cast and crew are given more comfortable places to sit, as surely he didn’t make Sam Elliott stand for all of A Star Is Born.

We’ll have to agree to disagree with Cooper’s stance on seating. Some of us look to chairs for comfort, not energy. Although he isn’t a fan of chairs on his set, we’re seating fanatics at House Beautiful. Plus, we don’t have movie sets of our own to run, so we get to be chair-obsessed, as there's nothing better than having cozy seating for yourself or a guest to lounge on. We love everything from reclining sectionals to kick your feet up to luxury couches that make the living room feel lavish.

If you’re in Cooper’s camp on the chair debate though, we definitely found some unique alternatives to chairs for you (and we promise they're more comfortable than an apple box).
