APD: Officer-involved shooting on E. Bonita leaves suspect critically injured

An officer-involved shooting has taken place in the 700 block of East Bonita, and the Amarillo Police Department (APD) Homicide Unit is investigating.

According to a police news release, Amarillo officers were sent to the 4600 block of Angelus on reports of a man pointing a rifle at people in the area. Officers found him in the 700 block of East Bonita, made contact and began giving commands.

APD said the man refused to comply and turned toward the officers "in an aggressive manner, producing what appeared to be a rifle or weapon. Officers fired their duty weapons and the male was struck."

The male suspect was taken to a local area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

No further information was yet available.

This case is still under investigation.
