Antonio Banderas has said he wants Spider-Man star Tom Holland to take over as Zorro in a future reboot.

Starring as the titular Zorro in 1998's The Mask of Zorro and its 2005 sequel The Legend of Zorro, Banderas said he would like the Marvel star to take over the role after starring with him in Uncharted.

"Tom Holland, I did Uncharted with him and he's so energetic and fun and he's got this spark, too. Why not?" Banderas said in an interview with ComicBook.com.

Saying he would consider returning to the role of Zorro one last time, the Puss in Boots actor said he would only do so to hand down the mask to its new wearer like Anthony Hopkins' Don Diego de la Vega did in the first film.

"Yes, I would. I would consider that possibility. Why not?" he said. "I think during today's interviews I said something like that to somebody… I said that if they call it Zorro, I will do what Anthony Hopkins did in the first movie and so give the torch to somebody else."

Earlier this year, Banderas talked about returning as Zorro, telling USA Today how Quentin Tarantino approached him in 2020 about a possible Django and Zorro crossover movie.

"He just came up to me and I was like: 'In your hands? Yeah, man!' Because Quentin just has that nature to do those type of movies and give them quality," Banderas revealed.

"We've never worked together, but it would be great because of him, because of Jamie Foxx, and because of [playing] Zorro again when he's a little bit older. It would be fantastic and funny and crazy."

Fans of swashbuckling adventures starring Banderas won't have long to wait as the sequel to Puss in Boots, titled The Last Wish is set for release this Christmas.
