Anti-masker causes airline to turn back Miami-to-London flight

One anti-masker ruined things for a 747 full of people.

American Airlines was forced to turn back a London-bound jet that had departed from Miami when a passenger refused to comply with federal masking rules meant to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The transatlantic flight made its about-face Wednesday night due to an unidentified female passenger, who was dealt with “administratively” by police at Miami International Airport. She was placed on the airline’s no-fly list pending further investigation into the incident.

Airline passengers may have to get weighed before boarding

American said 128 other passengers and 14 crew members were inconvenienced when the Boeing 747 was turned around. It had been in the air for roughly an hour, according to a flight-tracking service.

The FFA said that more than 150 airlines have reported issues with unruly passengers in 2022. Most of the problems have revolved around masking regulations. There were roughly 6,000 such incidents in 2021.
