Another Nordstrom Rack retail store — 27,000 square feet — coming to Johnson County

Seattle-based retailer Nordstrom Rack plans to open another Johnson County location.

The 27,000-square-foot store is scheduled to open in fall 2023 in Overland Crossing at 12050 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park.

It will take part of the former U.S. Toy Co. space. U.S. Toy closed its retail store earlier this year to concentrate on its wholesale customers and e-commerce channels.

“We look forward to opening this new Nordstrom Rack location in the Overland Park community, strengthening our network of stores and introducing new customers to Nordstrom Rack’s unique product offering,” Carl Jenkins, senior vice president of Nordstrom Rack Stores, said in a news release.

Nordstrom Rack is the off-price retail division of Nordstrom Inc.

It offers discounts up to 70% off on apparel, accessories, beauty, home and shoes, including many of the top brands sold at Nordstrom stores. It also has online order pickup from Nordstrom.com and NordstromRack.com, easy returns and alterations at select stores. Nordstrom Rack is the largest source of new customers to Nordstrom, the company said.

Locally, there also is a Nordstrom Rack in Lenexa, as well as a Nordstrom store that is an anchor for Oak Park Mall in Overland Park.

Earlier this year, Nordstrom dropped its plans to relocate the Overland Park store to the Country Club Plaza.

Five Below, a discount chain specializing in items under $5, will take 9,263-square-feet of the former U.S. Toy space.

5.11 Tactical gear recently opened in the center, and Whole Foods is relocating its Overland Park store there in early summer 2023. 151 Coffee and G Fairways also hope to open in the center and are going through city planning.

Overland Crossing is in talks with restaurants for some freestanding buildings.

Overland Crossing is owned and managed by Kansas City’s Legacy Development. It also has a Mattress Firm, Burlington and Pan-Asia Market.

In the release, Dave Claflin, vice president of development for Legacy, said: “Off-price retail is a red-hot segment and Nordstrom Rack is a best-in-class retailer. We could not be more excited to have them join us at Overland Crossing.”
