Anne Hathaway shares "gross" experience during a chemistry test
Anne Hathaway has recalled an experience from her early career, saying a previous chemistry test was "gross".
The star has had a storied career with roles including Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises and Fantine in Les Misérables, with her fame leading to more recent roles on the producing side of things.
This has led to Hathaway reflecting on the changing nature of the industry, with the star using an incident from her early career to highlight how chemistry tests have progressed over the ensuing years.

"Back in the 2000s — and this did happen to me — it was considered normal to ask an actor to make out with other actors to test for chemistry. Which is actually the worst way to do it," she told V Magazine.
"I was told: 'We have ten guys coming today and you're cast. Aren't you excited to make out with all of them?' And I thought: 'Is there something wrong with me?' Because I wasn't excited. I thought it sounded gross.
"I was so young and terribly aware how easy it was to lose everything by being labelled 'difficult', so I just pretended I was excited and got on with it. It wasn't a power play, no one was trying to be awful or hurt me. It was just a very different time and now we know better."
Hathaway's comments came during the press tour for her upcoming feature, The Idea of You, which sees the star play a single mother who embarks on a romance with the lead singer (Nicholas Galitzine) of a famous boy band.

With Hathaway serving as a producer for the project, the star said her previous experience informed her decisions when screen testing, explaining: "We asked each of the actors coming in to choose a song that they felt their character would love.
"They would put [the song] on to get my character to dance, and then we'd do a short little improv. I was sitting in a chair like we had come in from dinner or a walk or something, we pressed play, and we just started dancing together."
The Idea of You is released on Prime Video on May 2.
