Bassett’s President Mitchell is “a brilliant and perceptive political tactician who has an allegiance to” De Niro’s character George Mullen, a former President who gets pulled out of retirement “to head a commission tasked with investigating a devastating global cyber-attack,” per the official description.

The six-episode limited series “asks the question on everyone’s mind — how do we find truth in a world in crisis, one seemingly being torn apart by forces outside our control? And in an era rife with conspiracy theory and subterfuge, how much of those forces are products of our own doing, perhaps even of our own imagining?” TV veteran Lesli Linka Glatter (Homeland, Mad Men) will direct all six episodes.

Along with Bassett, Dan Stevens (Legion, Downton Abbey) has joined the cast as Evan Green, “a charismatic loudmouth and TV host of a wildly popular political program.” Matthew Modine (Stranger Things) will play Speaker of the House Richard Dreyer, while Bill Camp (The Queen’s Gambit) will play CIA Director Lasche. Plus, McKinley Belcher III (Ozark) will play Carl Lopez, “a tough, brilliant DOJ lawyer who serves as the Zero Day Commission’s lead investigator.”

Three more familiar faces have joined the series as guest stars as well: Gaby Hoffman (Transparent) as tech billionaire Monica Kidder; Clark Gregg (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as corporate raider Robert Lyndon; and Mark Ivanir (Barry) as intelligence operative Natan.
