Angel Reese takes selfie on Empire State Building with Caitlin Clark, other top WNBA Draft prospects

Angel Reese was among the many defining figures of the past two seasons of women’s college basketball, a time in which she was a two-time all-American and led LSU to its first ever national championship.

She wasn’t alone in elevating women’s college basketball, though, sharing that responsibility with several others whose stellar play helped lead to record television ratings and the sport reaching whole new audiences. On Monday, many of those accomplished figures gathered together for a photo.

With the 2024 WNBA Draft set to take place in Brooklyn Monday night, many of the top players in college basketball gathered on top of the Empire State Building in Manhattan. Reese commemorated the occasion with a selfie featuring herself, Iowa’s Caitlin Clark, Stanford’s Cameron Brink, Tennessee’s Rickea Jackson, UConn’s Aaliyah Edwards and Syracuse’s Dyaisha Fair.

“Whole lotta buckets,” Reese wrote.

The photo included what USA TODAY projects to be six of the top 10 picks in the draft, with Clark at No. 1, Brink at No. 2, Jackson at No. 3, Edwards at No. 6, Reese at No. 7 (to the Chicago Sky) and Fair at No. 10.

Reese wasn’t exaggerating with her caption, either. During the 2023-24 season, the six players combined to score 4,307 points. For their college careers, they scored a total of 15,530 points.

Reese is universally projected as a top-10 pick in the draft after an accomplished two year run at LSU that most recently saw her average 18.6 points, 13.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.9 steals and one block per game in 2023-24 while shooting 47.1% from the field.

She and the Tigers fell short in their quest for a second consecutive national championship after falling to Clark and Iowa 94-87 in the Elite Eight, a rematch of the 2023 NCAA championship game, which LSU won 102-85.
