Ananya Panday Stars in Riches to Rags Drama Series ‘Call Me Bae’ at Prime Video India (EXCLUSIVE)

Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra as executive producers give a glitzy pedigree to “Call Me Bae,” a new Hindi-language drama series set to launch on Prime Video in September.

Written by Ishita Moitra, Samina Motlekar and Rohit Nair, “Call Me Bae” tells the story of Bae, a young woman who is downsized from heiress to hustler after a scandal. She learns that her most valuable assets are not her diamonds, but her street smarts and style. Broke but refusing to be broken, she navigates the newsrooms of Mumbai, finding beaus, sisterhood and her better self.

The eight-part Prime Video original series is a Dharmatic Entertainment production. It was created by Ishita Moitra and is directed by Collin D’Cunha.

Ananya Panday (Dharma Productions films “Student of the Year 2,” “Rocky aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani,” and Gehraiyaan”) plays the lead role, Bella ‘Bae’ Chowdhary. The ensemble supporting cast includes of Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkaan Jaferi, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Lisa Mishra, and Mini Mathur.

Johar is one of India’s best-known filmmakers (Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham,” “My Name Is Khan”), producers and television personalities (“Koffee with Karan”). His Dharma Productions and Dharmatic Entertainment have various supply deals with Netflix and Prime Video. Johar’s companies have previously produced theatrical film “Yodha” and the upcoming Vicky Kaushal-starring comedy “Bad Newz” for Prime Video. The latter is set for a cinema release in mid-July.

“Yodha! was part of a massive 69-title 2024 slate of new and returning series and original and licensed films, unveiled by Prime Video in India in March. Johar was the host of the star-studded event. Johar and Oscar-winning producer Guneet Monga recently announced a series “Gyaarah Gyaarah” for another streamer ZEE5 Global.
