Amy Adams' new movie Nightbitch has been given a release date, at least in the United States.

The Man of Steel, Arrival, and The Fighter actress is leading and producing the film, which releases in the US on December 6, as confirmed by Searchlight Pictures' official Twitter/X account.

Adapted from the 2021 novel by Rachel Yoder, the film follows a stay-at-home mum who is constantly tired and fed up of looking after her two-year-old son and dealing with her husband, whenever he actually comes home.

She soon finds herself magically turning into a dog at night time, and while hesitant at first, she soon embraces her nocturnal canine form. While it's all fun and games playing with the baby and hunting the local wildlife, the violent animal urges threaten to overwhelm the mother.

Another project Adams has in the pipeline is Taika Waititi's adaptation of another novel from 2021, the dystopian Klara and the Sun.

The story centres around an android who is purchased by a mother in order to be a friend to her unwell daughter, with the synopsis stating: "This is the story of Klara's quest to save Josie and those who love her from heartbreak and how in the process Klara learns the power of human love."

Adams's last big role was in Disney sequel Disenchanted, which saw her reprise her role as Giselle.

While we at Digital Spy enjoyed the actress playing both good and evil versions of her character, we were less impressed with the film itself.

Our review read: "It's hard to escape the feeling though that as enjoyable as Disenchanted often is, it feels quite flat in comparison to the original. That's not just in the songs, but also the overstuffed plot that tries to give everybody something to do and only succeeds in creating several underdeveloped subplots."

Nightbitch will be released in US cinemas on December 6.
