Amtrak, NJ Transit facing delays and suspensions during the Wednesday evening rush hour

UPDATE: NJ Transit, Amtrak warn of more delays during Thursday morning's commute

Both Amtrak and New Jersey Transit trains are experiencing delays and suspensions during the Wednesday evening rush hour due to downed overhead power lines blocking the tracks, according to a service alert posted by Amtrak.

As of 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, all Amtrak travel between Newark and New York Penn Station was temporarily stopped.

"Crews are in the process of clearing the tracks. We do not have an estimation of when services in the area will resume," says the service alert. "We will provide more updates as we receive them from personnel on the scene. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience as we work through this unexpected situation."

As of 6:07 p.m. service in both directions on NJ Transit's Northeast Corridor Line was suspended between New York Penn Station and Metropark.

Service in both directions on the North Jersey Coast Line was suspended between New York Penn Station and Long Branch. The Raritan Valley Line service was also suspended in both directions due to the wire issues.

Midtown direct was being diverted to Hoboken.

All NJ Transit rail tickets and passes are being cross honored with NJ Transit bus and private carrier as well as PATH at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken and 33rd Street New York, according to a post from NJ Transit.
