‘American Idol’ Results Tonight: Who Went Home and Who Made the Top 14?

American Idol Top 20

American Idol went live for the first time in 2024 as host Ryan Seacrest presented the Top 20, which was reduced to the Top 14 by the end of the night using a combination of America’s votes—voting picks the top 10—and judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Perry’s pick of four artists.

The way it worked was the ten artists with the most votes—after almost 25 million ballots were cast, were safe and moving on. They still performed, but strictly for entertainment. The remaining ten had to sing for the chance to make the Top 14. Four of them were selected by the judges and the remaining six were eliminated.

Quintavious: Competing for Judges Pick

Song: “Make It Happen” by Mariah Carey

Luke said: “I believe that was probably the best performance we’ve seen from you. To walk out and be the first person to come out and hear the word no is tough.”

Mckenna Faith Brienholt: Top 14

Song: “Attention” by Charlie Puth

Katy said: “I was so surprised because I thought last night’s performance was great for you. Maybe a few notes could have been better. Tonight was A or A+. When America says no, you and Quintavious decided, ‘I’m doing this for myself now.’”

Jack Blocker: Top 14

Song: “Feeling Whitney” by Post Malone

Kennedy Reid: Competing for Judges Pick

Song: “Somethin’ Bad” by Miranda Lambert & Carrie Underwood

Lionel said: “That is the way to deal with no. When America said no, you said, ‘I don’t think so.’ That was clear. Your attitude, your personality when you walked on that stage, had all the confidence in the world. I’m so proud of you.”

Jennifer Jeffries: Competing for Judges Pick

Song: “All I Want” by Kodaline

Luke said: "This is a big shocker to me. I think with ‘Gravedigger’ last night, it wasn’t a step-out moment. This was one of my favorite, if not my favorite performance. We have yet to hear you do falsetto. That was a new trick. No matter what happens, you are going to have some special stuff. Your voice is uniquely yours.”

Ajii: Competing for Judges Pick

Song: “Call Out My Name” by The Weeknd

Katy said: “The audience was booing America’s vote. We are not going to boo that performance because it was excellent. I think there’s an energy in this room that when you play, when you sing, we all feel. That song was really great because you gave us vocals. This is a singing competition, but it isn’t, but it is. You gave us what we need to feel confident to have you in this competition.”

Mia Mathews: Top 14

Song: “Burning House” by Cam

Kayko: Top 14

Song: “What If?” by Kayko

Nya: Competing for Judges Pick -- Made Top 14

Song: “Water” by Tyla

Lionel said: “Way to switch it up. You give attitude, not only great voice, but great attitude. I’m telling you, I just want America to rethink the situation because I think that was a star performance.”

Will Moseley: Top 14

Song: “Gone for Good” by Will Moseley

Abi Carter: Top 14

Song: “My Mind” by Yebba
