American Idol continued its search for the next singing sensation with another night of performances critiqued by judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan but voted on by America.

Host Ryan Seacrest shared that the songs that the Top 12 would be performing were songs that made it to No. 1 on Billboard’s hit list—and they got help preparing from guest mentor Meghan Trainor.

Also, 2008 runner-up David Archuleta performed his new single, “Hell Together.”

Then America voted live for the Top 10.

Song: “All Too Well" by Taylor Swift

Luke said: “Last night was one of your shining moments. I think we thought it would always be that shiny, but I don’t think we got there again. We’re getting into the Top 10. We have to be honest with you. Don’t be too comfortable at the piano. Work the room.”

Will Moseley

Song: “Starting Over” by Chris Stapleton

Lionel said: “Way to go Will Mosely. What I love about that performance is you went from zero to 100 in less than 2 seconds. The song was right, the rhythm was right, and then your voice came in and that was the end of the ball game. You did an amazing job.”

Jayna Elise

Song: “Diamonds” by Rihanna

Katy said: “I just think that was so balanced, so measured, so you. You have finally reached your 100 percent formula, perfectly measured Jayna Elise. I hope you continue to deliver like this for the rest of your life.”

Mia Matthews

Song: “Over You” by Miranda Lambert

Luke said: “It’s funny because we watch you and Meghan interact and then the song comes on and Katy and I look at each other. Part of this thing is to look like a star and what you’re doing is star power stuff. You went from this shy girl we met in auditions to delivering that song perfectly.”

Roman Collins

Song: “Roar” by Katy Perry

Lionel said: “You have never failed to take it over the top. You have a vibe about you that we’re waiting for it to explode. That was a Katy Perry song that was so full of church, so full of soul, so full of power, your roaring was amazing here tonight.”

Jack Blocker

Song: “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd

Katy said: “You did it again. You used that brain of yours. Strategy. It would be easy to put you in Mumford & Sons, but you played a different card to keep people guessing. You’ve got incredible dynamic vocals. I’d like to hear you sing a cappella next time.”

Emmy Russell

Song: “Lose You to Love Me” by Selena Gomez

Luke said: “We have just thrown so much at you. We have taken you out of your comfort zone. Even to putting you in front of Meghan and letting her rough you up. To go through all that and to still shine… You always shine in these moments. I know you are not comfortable but love singing and have fun with it.”

Julia Gagnon

Song: “Something in the Orange” by Zach Bryan

Katy said: “The first time we met you was probably one of my favorite performances. We know you can blow. It was about the dance. Dyamics got me believing again.”
