American Airlines to cancel 21 routes from Austin. Here are alternative airlines to book

American Airlines is cutting routes from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in 2024.

The airline recently announced plans to alter a spate of departure routes that will eliminate 15 domestic routes and six international routes from its offering at the Austin airport, an airline spokesperson recently told the American-Statesman.

The changes will allow American Airlines to offer 53% more seats per day and 19 additional daily departures compared to 2019, the spokesperson wrote in an email. American plans to reach out to customers affected by route changes.

"American Airlines has adjusted its flight schedules from AUS starting next year," an Austin airport spokesperson wrote in a statement. "We’re grateful for their offerings, which provide more nonstop departures and more seats to Central Texas travelers than in 2019."

Most routes will be serviced until the beginning of January through the beginning of April, though some seasonal routes have already ceased and will not resume. Several of the routes cut by American will still be serviced by other airlines, though American is the only airline that flies to a few destinations nonstop, meaning those stops are out of reach for travelers from the Austin airport.
