‘America’s Got Talent’ contestant hospitalized after daring stunt goes wrong: report

A contestant on “America’s Got Talent: Extreme” was reportedly involved in a horrific accident while performing a daring stunt for the show’s upcoming season.

Jonathan Goodwin was wearing a straitjacket and hanging by his feet about 70 feet in the air while two cars that were also suspended kept swinging around him, TMZ reported Friday. The plan was for him to free himself and fall on an air mattress, but the stunt did not go as planned.

The two cars apparently crashed into each other, with Goodwin caught in the middle, causing the vehicles to explode and throw the stuntman to the ground, according to the site. Goodwin hit his head and his injuries looked so bad that people on the set thought he had died, TMZ reported.

The British American stuntman was reportedly airlifted to a hospital and underwent emergency surgery. His condition was not immediately known Friday.

NBC, which broadcasts the show, did not immediately return a Daily News request for more information. A representative for Goodwin also did not respond to an email seeking comment.

Goodwin’s website describes him as “The Daredevil” and a “modern-day superhero” who is somewhere between Houdini and Superman.

“Jonathan has been attacked by sharks, burned at the stake, buried alive, bitten by rattlesnakes, hung from buildings, helicopters, and cable cars, among many other incredible feats,” the website states.

He is also described as an expert escape artist, knife thrower, archer, free diver, free climber, marksman and strength performer.

Goodwin had already appeared on “America’s Got Talent” in 2020, when he performed a terrifying escape stunt while surrounded by fire.

The show is part of the “Got Talent” franchise created by Simon Cowell. The new “Extreme” season will feature Cowell, WWE star Nikke Bella and motor sports competitor Travis Pastrana as judges, with actor Terry Crews returning as host.

A premiere date has not been set.
