North Texas Amber Alert canceled after missing 12-year-old Haltom City girl found safe

A 12-year-old girl who was reported missing after she left a middle school in Haltom City on Monday morning was found safe Wednesday morning, according to police.

The child is being reunited with her family, Haltom City police posted in an update on Facebook about 9 a.m.

Police thanked the community and federal, state and local agencies for their help in the search, during which a local Amber Alert was issued in North Texas.

The girl had last been seen leaving North Oaks Middle School on foot about 11:15 a.m. Monday. The school is located south of Loop 820 and west of U.S. 377.

Haltom City police posted on social media Tuesday asking the community for help, and the Texas Department of Public Safety issued an Amber Alert in the case on Wednesday about 4 a.m.

The girl disappeared after crossing railroad tracks next to the library, according to police. She left behind her school Chromebook laptop and her cellphone, which were both being analyzed.

“Our hopes are that she is staying at a friend’s house and we can bring her home but we also know she has friends in Fort Worth,” Haltom City police wrote in the initial Facebook post.
